Christmas Gifts for St. Vincent Scholars and Children

Gift Cards: We are partnering with HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services to provide gift cards for young people who are cycling out of foster care and likely not receiving any gifts for Christmas this year, and foster children who do not have access to school supplies and learning tools required for remote schooling.

You can donate to this worthy parish effort and help to bring Christmas joy to our young friends by donating online at https://stcharlesbklyn.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/StVincentsGiftCards or dropping off a check at the rectory or in the collection box for St. Charles Borromeo with a note in the memo line that it is for the St. Vincent’s Gift Card Drive.

Please note that in light of the pandemic, we will need to get the gift cards to St. Vincent’s Services earlier this year, so if you would like to contribute, don’t delay! We would be very grateful for contributions of any amount. Donations will be pooled and divided evenly for the recipients to use on Christmas toys and/or school supplies.

Toys for Individual Children: If you would prefer to “Adopt-a-Child” and buy toys for a particular child, we will have the names of individual children and what they really wants. Please email [email protected] if you would like to participate.

Catholic Charities Toy Drive

In what has been a strong nine year tradition, we are partnering with the Custom House, to support the Catholic Charities toy drive. The toys and baby items collected will be brought together in a “toy store” for parents to choose which toys they think best for their children. Please place your toys in the rear of the Church.

Volunteering for Catholic Charities Toy Drive

Much work goes into the toy drive, especially after the toys are donated. More help than usual is needed this year due to the safety protocols. We are looking for people who could help prepare for and make the toy distribution a success:

Toy Collection
The toys will be collected from churches and Investors Bank locations during the week of Dec 14. We are looking for people who have cars to drive and also those who can help load.

The toys will be dropped off at two churches in Brooklyn and Queens: St. Vincent Ferrer, Flatbush and Our Lady of the Angelus, Rego Park.

Toy Distribution
The toys will be set up at “toy stores” at the two churches where parents can select the toys for their children. Below are the dates of the toy distributions at each site:
Dec. 18: Our Lady of Angeles, Rego Park
Dec. 22: St. Vincent Ferrer, Flatbush

More details about exact timing should be available next week. If you are available to assist by email or call the rectory, [email protected] or (718) 625-1177.
